Stud of Máta

This Hortobágy stud farm that was established 300 years ago by the free royal city of Debrecen is the symbol of the Puszta. Due to its rich and unique horse breeding traditions it has a specific place in the line of national and historic stud farms of Europe. Its popularity was established by the horse art of the wranglers of Hortobágy and the Nonius horse species. In our days it is a horse breeding, as well as an event and tourist centre of international reputation. From among its organised programs the most popular one is the Puszta workshop that introduces the natural values, the herdsmen traditions, the wranglers’ bravado, as well as the stud farm, the Hungarian grey cattle and the native animals characteristic of the landscape.

Additional programs available: horse riding and coach-driving training, cross-country riding, music horse parade. Visitors may see the cartwright and forger museum, the cart show, the black ceramics workshop of Nádudvar, as well as the main stables of the stud farm free of charge.
