Herdsmen’s Museum

The building was a cart shed in the old times, where most of the marketers and the Hortobágy herdsmen turned up. The Herdsmen’s Museum exhibits the most important elements of the horsemen’s, herdsmen’s, and shepherd’s lives from the spring driving out until the late- summer Bridge Fair.

The Puszta Wild Animal Park based on the natural conditions of the Hortobágy National Park is a perfect place for the demonstration of the ancient wildlife of the Hungarian Puszta. You can watch wild animals lived here before the human history, but the spread of civilization drove them to extinction: Wolves, Jackals, Przewalski’s Horses, Vultures, Pelicans, and other wild animals still living in the protected areas.

Today it is one of the symbols of the puszta. Due to its rich and unique horse breeding traditions it has a special place among the national and historical studs of Europe. Its reputation has been established by the equestrian art of the horsemen of the Hortobágy and the Nonius breed. It is an internationally recognized horse breeding-, program- and tourist centre in our days. The most popular among the organized programmes is the horsecarriage tour, introducing netural treasures, herdsmen’s traditions, horsemen and stud, the Hungarian Grey Cattle herd and other Hungarian domestic animals typical to the area in their habitat.

Bird gardens, a bird saving exhibition, a visitor centre with an „ecological information and communications house” and an exhibition hospital, the great aviary, lake system and a playground, eagle aviary for children await the visitors.
